A revitalized the Russian player claimed his maiden championship for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The player's counter-punching strategy and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an better serving game.

He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the last five points to gain the advantage.
